The study of Scottish pewter tankards is one which has been largely neglected, and standard works on pewter are lamentably deficient in this branch of the subject. No doubt this is partly clue to the great scarcity of
any examples of really early elate, and partly to their comparative lack of beauty and interest when compared with the English lidded Stuart and Georgian types.
