A few years ago, whilst giving a presentation at a Pewter Society meeting at Creaton, Albert Bartram pointed out that, from the outside, the join between the upper and lower halves of the body of a baluster measure was completely invisible. He said that this was frequently the case, and that - “we aren’t quite sure how it was done”. The following article, which is a summary of a talk given at the 2019 Spring meeting at Malvern attempts to rectify this though at present the final conclusions remain simply speculation.
