Georgian Pear Caddy
In the late 18th and early 19th century, a fashion developed for naturalistic containers, of which the fruitwood caddies are the best known. This is the first pewter example we have seen, and it is of stunning workmanship with extensive wrigglework and bright cut engraving. It was covered with worn and chipped greyish brown paint when purchased, but it was too attractive to leave like that.
